Trader of the Week: The Gift Shop Aiming to Put Craig-y-Don on the Map

AFTER lying dormant for 11 years, a building in Craig-y-Don has been given new life, thanks to a gift shop seeking to give the Llandudno suburb more reason to scream.

It was June 2021 when Alix Donaldson opened Givealittle, a store selling everything from pottery and jewelry to soaps and skincare, and more.

Describing the opening of Givealittle as her proudest moment in business, in some ways Alix, who is herself from Craig-y-Don, has also followed in her mother’s footsteps.

Alix said: “My mum ran a gift shop in Ruthin many years ago so I grew up running around her shop!

“I had done some online shopping, but I always wanted to have my own shop. It’s definitely my own shop, but I guess if I knew what a gift shop would be like, it was because of my mother.

“We have pottery, art, felting, freeform artistic sewing, craft kits, jewelry, cards, craft glass, yarn art, soaps and skincare, books, lighting, fair trade items and more.

“We also support local artisans wherever possible.

“I would really like Craig-y-Don to be on the Llandudno map. We have some fantastic independent businesses here and we need support. The feedback is really positive.”

Making many of her own products herself, Alix also sells kits for people to create their own wireframe, with wireframe workshops to follow later in the year.

She considers her handmade bird feeders to be the store’s bestseller, which not only delights customers but also supports charities along the way.

“Probably the biggest sellers in the shop are the handmade bird feeders; they sell out every week,” she added.

“The nice thing about these is that charities also benefit as most of the teapots and cups, which are turned into bird feeders, come from charity shops.

“This June we celebrated our first anniversary, having met so many wonderful and supportive people along the way.”
