The Winthrop Society will celebrate the opening of the center in August

August marks the first anniversary of the Winthrop History and Heritage Center at 107 Main St.

Plans are underway for a month full of celebrations. Each week in August there will be a free raffle of items from local businesses. People can stop by the center to see the exhibits and browse the gift shop.

The first free ticket just for the visit will be put into the weekly draw. With purchases in the gift shop, a second ticket will also be included in the draw.

Cookies and drinks will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 20 during the Winthrop Art Festival. Financial support from local businesses and individual donors, as well as grants received, made this opportunity possible, according to a press release from the center.

Donations for the weekly raffle were provided by Main Street Mercantile, My Sister’s Pizza, Parks Performance, Pickle’s Potions and Lotions, Sully’s Tavern, Tavern on the Hill 305, Ted’s Trackside Grill and the Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union.

The opening hours of the center are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
