In celebration of Pride Month, Seattle’s professional sports teams – Seattle Kraken, Seattle Mariners, OL Reign, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Seawolves, Seattle Sounders FC and Seattle Storm – come together to show their support for the LGBTQIA+ community and encourage the inclusion for youth in sports, with the goal of making Washington State the most inclusive place for youth sports participation in the nation.
Representatives from each team march together in the Seattle Pride Parade and invite fans of all ages to attend and watch along the parade route. The Seattle Pride Parade takes place Sunday, June 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. PT, beginning at Fourth Avenue & Pike Street and ending at Second Avenue and Denny Way in downtown Seattle. Marching alongside the teams in the parade will also be representatives of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). Last year, the teams jointly announced public support for the WIAA and its Gender Diversity Inclusion Toolkita youth inclusive sport best practices resource guide for leaders who interact with young athletes across the state.

More than 90 Seattle Kraken staff members and their families are excited to walk alongside Seattle’s best with the Zamboni “Pride Runs Deep” in this year’s Pride Parade. Additionally, the Kraken are incredibly proud to continue supporting our LGBTQ+ community throughout June with the new “Pride Runs Deep” merchandise line on sale at all team stores. Earlier in the month, the Kraken hosted a Pride Month kick-off happy hour at 32 Bar and Grill presented in partnership with Symetra and held Pride-themed public skates at the Kraken Community Iceplex, which hosted this year’s Seattle Pride Hockey Classic.
The Mariners will have over 100 staff, family and friends marching in the parade alongside the Mariner Moose, while DJ Hershe will play live music along the parade route. Staff will be handing out wristbands, hats, fanny packs, temporary tattoos and Mariners Pride koozies. On Thursday, June 30, the Mariners will host Pride Night presented by T-Mobile. Each ticket purchased through the team’s Mariners.com/Pride Special will receive a Mariners Pride Night Short Sleeve Hoodie. $5 of every ticket sold under this special offer will benefit the GSBA scholarship funds. Additionally, for every Mariners Dog sold on Pride Night, the Mariners Care Foundation will donate $1 to the GSBA. At the game, fans can enjoy a pre-game event in The ‘Pen featuring a live DJ, face painting, raffle prizes and a number of photo opportunities in front of former Dale Scott. MLB umpire and author of “The Umpire is OUT – calling the game and living my true self” as he throws the first pitch. The first 10,000 fans through the door will receive a Mariners Pride cap, courtesy of Alaska Airlines. OL Reign is thrilled to continue its commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community this Pride Month and beyond. To kick off the festivities at the Seattle Pride Parade, members of the team and front office will join the march on June 26. The celebrations will continue at OL Reign’s annual Pride Match on July 1, with fans being greeted with several matchday experiences and the club’s players wearing Pride-themed shirts. Match-worn jerseys will be auctioned off in support of LGBTQIA+ causes, in addition to custom signed warm-up shirts that read “Protect Trans Kids”. OL Reign will soon launch their entire Pride 2022 collection later this month.
Seahawks front desk and Lumen Field staff, their families and friends will march together in the parade along with the Seahawks and Blue Thunder dancers. Staff will distribute Seahawks Pride sunglasses and 12 flags along the parade route. In June, the Seahawks will support the Lavender Rights Project, which provides legal and social advocacy to black people of various genders in Washington State. The Seahawks will donate 12% of all Seahawks Pride gear sold at Seahawks Pro Shops in June to the Lavender Rights Project, as well as 100% of proceeds from select autographed items sold on the Seahawks online auction site in June . Fans can also donate to the Lavender Rights Project at the Pro Shop checkout. The Seahawks recently participated in the Yakima Pride Parade as part of the team’s 12 year tour, featuring Blue Thunder, Seahawks Dancers, Mascot Blitz, DJ Supa Sam, along with players and legends. Every night from June 21-26, Lumen Field’s distinctive roof arches will be lit up in rainbow colors to celebrate Pride. Later this year, the Seahawks will host the team’s first-ever Pride Night at their August 18 home preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
The Seattle Seawolves strive to develop, cultivate and expand the sport of rugby in the United States while building family, tradition, respect and a spirit of inclusion both on and off the field. . Rugby is one of the most inclusive sports in the world –– welcoming all backgrounds, shapes, sizes and genders to play our game in the same uniform, with the same rules, with the same equipment. Although they are unavailable to participate in this year’s Pride Parade due to a third Major League Rugby Championship appearance on June 25, the Seawolves are proud to partner with Seattle Pride as that we continue to welcome all members of the community to our pod.
Ahead of the club’s annual Pride Match, presented by Starbucks, players from Sounders FC and OL Reign come together with Starbucks and WIAA youth to hoist a giant Progress Pride flag atop Lumen Field on Friday, June 24. The flag will fly until July 1 for the Sounders FC and OL Reign pride matches. On Saturday, June 25, the Rave Greens take on Sporting Kansas City and the day’s game will feature a host of Pride-celebrating activities. The team’s giant SEATTLE letters will be packed for Pride, giving fans a light-up photo op, while Frelard Tamales – a Latinx and LGBTQ+-owned restaurant based in the Green Lake neighborhood specializing in handmade tamales – is featured with a special pop-up location in the East Lobby and special Pride items are available in the Lumen Field Pro Shop. In addition, young people from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association are the children of the day’s prom. On the field, players wear Pride warm-up tops and Progress Pride flag-inspired jersey numbers and a captain’s armband, in addition to Pride-themed corner flags. On Sunday, Sounders FC staff, supporters and Sound Wave join the celebration at the Seattle Pride Parade, marching alongside OL Reign and Seattle’s professional sports community, as well as athletes, coaches , WIAA Athletic Directors and those who have been positively impacted by the Gender Diversity Youth Sports Inclusion Toolkit.
The Seattle Storm welcomed the month of June with its longstanding tradition of observing Pride Month in support of the LGBTQ+ community. The four-time WNBA champion launched a line of Pride merchandise to benefit the Seattle Children’s Gender Clinic and hosts Pride Night presented by AT&T on June 25, in addition to parading staff during the Seattle Pride Parade on June 26.
The commitment to fostering inclusivity in sport, especially for youth, is an initiative the teams have pledged to jointly support as Seattle’s sport community. In June 2021, the Seattle Seahawks, OL Reign, Seattle Kraken, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Sounders FC, and Seattle Storm jointly announced public support for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and its gender-neutral toolkit for leaders who interact with young athletes. across the state. Designed by experts from WIAA and Gender Diversity, a national non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of the wide range of gender diversity, the free digital toolkit is available to all youth coaches, teachers and K-12 administrators and parents in Washington State. As the presence of students of diverse gender identities increases on sports teams, in lessons and in other activities, continued efforts towards inclusive practices and education are essential to creating a fair playing field.
