Memories are pieces of the past that have special meaning. They can include autographs, special political coins, ornamental jewelry, a craft-inspired collectible, or just a postcard!

The great joy of a memory is the memory it welcomes. The value is just a bonus.

Dear Yenke Peddler,

I have two souvenirs from the Great Smoky Mountains. Although we went there, it wasn’t until years later that I found these coins. They brought back great memories! The marks on the toothpick holder are a sticker with GF and Made in Japan. The music box plays “On Top of Old Smoky”. What would be the value?

JM

Dear Jack,

Your wonderful memories of the Great Smoky Mountains are very appealing. The musical piece is very colorful, with equally iconic images. The scenic view and black bear are sure sightings. As for the toothpick holder, you can date it after the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891. Both pieces appear to be from the 1950s. The value would be $45 for the pair. Small but interactive memories!
