Bus driver surprises students with personalized gifts

A bus driver goes above and beyond to give his students the Christmas they deserve. She surprised every child with personalized gifts that match their wish lists.

Children taking the 2238 bus to Lee County schools are on the “Love” route. Laquasha Jones is their bus driver. “No matter how I feel about what is going on, I believe you should show love at all times, especially towards children. I feel like they need it the most,” Jones said. .

And, Ms. Quay’s runners say the feeling is mutual. Brenna Lean is a 9 year old student at Heights Elementary School. “I love him very much, absolutely so much,” she said.

Logan Lean also goes to Heights Elementary. “I like it taller than the tallest tower in the world,” Lean said.

Ms. Quay says she knows she is one of the first faces children see in the morning. So she goes the extra mile to make sure they start the day on the right foot.

“We all sing Christmas carols on the bus,” Brenna said.

“She is an excellent bus driver because she loves to play music. She loves to sing with us, ”Logan said.

Kelly Lean is Logan and Brenna’s mother. She cherishes Mrs. Quay, and her children too. “They talk about her all the time,” Lean said.

“I started to realize that on the days I came to work without feeling up to it or just myself, one of the… those kids would get on the bus,” Jones said. “And they would give me something that would light up my heart if it was just a smile.”

So Ms. Quay wanted to do something to show these students how much she cares about him. “One day I just asked, ‘What do you want for Christmas? “”

Once the kids handed her their wish lists, Ms. Quay delivered. Each of his students received a special gift. “I have candy and a jump rope,” Brenna said.

“I asked for football cards because I’m more of a sports fan, and I had two legends,” Logan said.

“I just couldn’t believe she took the time to find out what they wanted and come back with a gift,” Kelly said.

And a card that was signed, “With love, Miss Quay from bus 2238.”

As many know, bus drivers in Lee County, southwest Florida, have struggled in recent years. But, this fantastic bus driver, Ms. Quay, says she is more worried about what her children are going through. A smile or a song can go a long way.
