A man makes a personalized beer for Father Old Saybrook for Father’s Day

OLD SAYBROOK – While some give away traditional ties, wallets or other Father’s Day gifts, a son from Old Saybrook has handmade a gift he knows his dad would treasure.

Hobby brewer Nick Urban, 31, opted for beer – with his father’s face on it.

Urban’s own Beary Sour, which features a photo of his dad Mike Urban in a colorful shirt on the label, was a hit and miss. “We canned it and then it was ready to drink the Saturday before Father’s Day,” he said.

When Nick Urban went to get his friend Ryan Delgobbo’s beer, they talked about what they were getting their dads for Father’s Day, he said. They finally decided that a cool gift would be to put fun labels on the cans with their dads names on them.

“We made two (four packs) each for our dads,” he said. “He liked it, which is good, because normally he doesn’t like fruit beers. He went to college in Wisconsin, so he likes traditional pilsner-style beers.

Nick Urban, who lives in New Haven, said he and a few friends have been making beer on and off for about six years.

“At my friend Ryan’s place, we’re taking over his parents’ kitchen, and we’ve made… five or six beers since then,” Urban said, adding that, among friends, they call the company Lone Burro Brewing Co. is for fun.”

The beer was a lot of fun and totally unexpected, said Mike Urban. “I always tell the kids when they come over, ‘Bring a six-pack of beer or something. You have to contribute to the party,'” he said. my face all over the front.”

Although he admitted he wasn’t a big fan of Sours, Mike Urban said he appreciated the gift.

“Aesthetically, it was fantastic. I still plan to drink the rest of the cans I have here in due course.

“They will be gone by the end of this weekend – sour or not,” he said.
